FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR YOUR PRP FOR HAIR LOSS VISIT
DETAILS TO KNOW ABOUT PRP VISITS
1. HAIR FIBERS: Please try to avoid having any hair fibers, Toppik, or other camouflage products in your hair.
2. HAIR PRODUCTS: It is best to come in with your hair as it is normally worn, but if you do use product or hair gel, coming in without these does make for a more accurate consultation.
3. ASPIRIN: It is best if you try to avoid aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents 7-10 days prior to the procedure. However, if you have a medical condition that requires aspirin, please consult with the physician who recommended this prior to stopping it. At the end of the day, we would prefer you stay on Aspirin if it is critical for your health. If you forget, and you stay on Aspirin, you can still get the treatment done, but for future treatments, try to remember to discontinue this. Blood thinners such as Coumadin (warfarin), Eliquis, and Plavix are fine to continue.
4. RESTRICTIONS: There are really no restrictions after treatment. You can go to the gym, work out, run, shower, sleep, or return to work. We do ask patients not to get a hair color treatment for about 3 days after the procedure, but before and well after is totally fine.
5. PRICING: please call for pricing
6. DRIVING: You can drive yourself to and from the procedure. We use either a chiller or nitrous oxide for comfort. You do not need to be driven home after the nitrous oxide, as the effects typically disappear within 5 minutes.
7. TIME: You are typically in the office for approximately one hour on your first visit. Subsequent visits, you will likely be in the office for about 30-45 minutes.
8. CONSULTATION FEES: We do charge for our consultations. This is because we are a medical practice that accepts insurance and Medicare, and it is considered an inducement to offer services and consultations without charging for specific patient types. Our physicians follow these rules, and we abide by the guidelines set forth by our governing ethics committees. We appreciate your understanding of this. Pricing for consultations is as follows:
a. If you have a health insurance that we take, many insurances still do cover evaluations for hair loss, and we will file with your insurance. Your specialist copayment or deductible amount will apply, and these amounts vary depending on the insurance company.
b. If you use your health insurance, and you choose to get the PRP done on the same day of your office visit, we will only bill an office visit if you discuss other dermatology conditions (non-hair loss related) or if prescriptions are sent. Otherwise, we will just bill you for the platelet rich plasma treatment.
c. If you use your health insurance, and you book PRP treatment in the future, we will file for the office visit with your insurance, and the future treatments will be paid separately.
d. If you are self pay, and you choose to get the PRP done on the same day of your office visit, you will not be responsible for the consultation fee unless you decide to discuss other dermatology concerns with your physician (non hair-loss related).
e. If you are self pay, and you choose to get the PRP done in the future, you will not have to pay the consultation fee if you pay for at least one treatment in full. If, however, you cancel and elect not to proceed with the procedure, you will be refunded the full amount less the amount of the consultation fee that was applied.
f. If you are self pay, and you choose not to get PRP treatment done or if you choose to consider your options and schedule in the future, you will be responsible for the consultation fee.
9. NO-SHOWS: Several of our physicians are very heavily booked for PRP. Given this, we do ask that you keep your appointment if at all possible. If you need to cancel, we ask that you give us 48 hours’ notice. If you do not give sufficient notice, you will be charged a $200 no-show/late-cancellation fee.
Thank you so much for reading all of this information. We appreciate your giving us the opportunity to treat you, and we look forward to meeting you.
