Rosacea Triggers

There are many potential triggers of rosacea. These triggers are not thought to be direct causes, but many people find that certain triggers make their symptoms worsen.  Although avoidance of these will certainly help symptoms, it is not always reasonable or possible to avoid these entirely. Working closely with your Houston rosacea physicians, you can come up with a plan to help control your rosacea as much as possible.

 Common triggers include:

  • Sunlight

  • Stress

  • Heat

  • Alcohol, especially red wine

  • Spicy foods

  • Some skin and hair care products

  • Some makeup

  • Wind and cold

  • Some medicines, especially steroids

  • Exercise

Many skin care products can irritate skin with rosacea. Some skin care habits, such as scrubbing your skin clean, can cause rosacea to flare. Using mild skin care products and being gentle with your skin can help prevent flare-ups.

Sun protective measures are always advised, no matter what your skin condition is.  Apart from this, avoiding triggers as much as possible can be beneficial.
